Non-Restricted rifle B.S.A. model Gibbs Lee Metford, .303 British ten shot bolt action, w/ bbl length 30" [Blued barrel and receiver. Fixed front and adjustable rear sights. Full wood stock with brass butt plate. Includes one detachable magazine and leather sling. Matching serial number on receiver and bolt. Other markings include "GIBBS, BRISTOL & LONDON' on top of barrel, 'FOR CORDITE ONLY" serial number and proof marks on top of receiver "B.S.A. CO." on right side of band, electric pencil 'M54350" on trigger guard. Fitted with Magazine cut-off and volley sight, although rear volley sight piece is missing. Mechanically appears near excellent. -This historically significant firearms was purportedly given as a prize as evident by the silver inset medallion on right side of stock from Birmingham Small Arms during the Bisley 1904 shooting Competition ( Bisley, Surrey England), note area on medallion given for the winner's name was never engraved). Also includes 9kt rose gold Maltese cross medallion with guilloche enamel St. George's cross and backside engraved to "2nd V.B.H.L.I ( Volunteer Battalion Highland Light Infantry) Reg. Shooting Club Aggregate Jrs.. Crystal Metal won by Pte. A. Craig B. Coy 1940" and also includes two different bronze NRA medallions each in original fitted boxes branded "ELKINGTON & CO. Medalists and a Scottish Rifle Association patch badge with metal thread and a period appropriate leather shooting satchel. Extremely scarce firearm with a fascinating history.
